Today I had the great opportunity to participate in the Marshawn Evans Speak 4 Pay seminar powered by Women In The Spotlight GoinGlobal. I was truly empowered and enlighten by the information shared with us today from Marshawn Evans. She not only informed us of what we were doing wrong in pursuit of developing a speaking career but she shared with us best practice and on what we should be doing next.
If you do not know who Marshawn Evans is please go check her out at www.marshawnevans.com you will thank me later!
I had the great opportunity to host the Youth Summit for the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. which is comprised of 43 Black, Hispanic, and Asian state legislators from districts across the state.
The guest speaker Gabrielle J Williams shared her insight on entrepreneurship and being a young “Go Getta” and the importance of knowing your unique selling value. Not only was the youth motivated and moved but so was adults. After the guest speaker was the talent show. Every youth that performed was so talented and it was truly hard to pick a winner.
Check out some of the pics from the summit. Enjoy!
Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes is the new Association Chair and this year’s theme, “Reclaiming Our Sons & Our Daughters,” is a commitment to re-engage Legislators, businesses and constituencies statewide to reclaim our children. This annual, statewide event allows The Association to raise scholarship funds for the educational advancement of African-American, Hispanic and other minority youth.
The three-day weekend will bring together the most influential African-American, Hispanic, Caribbean and Asian leaders from every corner of the Empire State and beyond. The weekend includes the Friday night Chairman’s Reception which is by invitation-only. Saturday’s itinerary boasts a series of dynamic seminars, a Career and Business Expo and Craft Exhibition Fair, an exciting Youth Summit hosted by WBLK’s Adri-V, plus an R&B Concert featuring Grammy-award winner, Chrisette Michelle, Johnny Gill and Concert After-Party. On Sunday, The Association and conference attendees take part in a Church Service, Awards Ceremony and its most important event – the Gala Scholarship Dinner, which also serves as the weekend’s largest fundraiser for educational scholarships.
The New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. is comprised of 43 Black, Hispanic, and Asian state legislators from districts across the state. Although its composition is diverse, its goal is wholeheartedly singular; increasing its Scholarship Fund to offer scholarships to NYS high school students who are pursuing higher education.
